Rather than use any kind of "NEW" indicator I use a Revision Date in the page header, linked to this page. This solves a big problem: "New since when?" - I can never be sure, even for regular visitors, that what I mark as new is actually new to a reader, and what I un-mark isn't actually old. So, you decide: read the date and remember when you were last here. The Revision Date will always be within the first screen you see, and you can do whatever you want from there based on what you read.

Action words are colour-coded so at a glance you can see how "different" a release is by the predominance of one colour or another. Created and Deleted items are assumed to be of most interest, followed by Added and Changed.
