Monthly Meetings get off to a slick start

January 26th, 2012

Russ has landed an interesting speaker for February’s meeting. Suncor’s Peter Harteveld, Peter has done a lot of research ensuring that his presentation on Motor Oil is relevant to our classic cars. With the upcoming Quaker State Classic oil and other brands out there it will no doubt be interesting to find out what Mr. Hareveld has found out.  Russ is pulling a lot of strings to get these experts to come speak to us so lets get out and have a good meeting.

Speaking of good meetings the planning meeting is scheduled for the March Meeting night. Alec Cherwenuk is already working on a list of things to do and places to go. If you have any ideas or wants in this area please feel free to contact him. He’s listed onsite in the Executive section or in the newsletter.  Be very helpful meeting night if you have as much info on the event that you can. The St. Paddy’s Day BBQ takes place before the meeting but if it turns out to be a go then we should have it in the newsletter and of course here online and via email.  Usually a good event as we touch base with people after a long winter. And though warm it’s still been long.  So watch this spot.

Annual General Meeting

January 16th, 2012

A very cold night saw a small turnout for the AGM. That not withstanding we were successful for the most part in replacing those executive who had fufilled their mandate. The Bylaws limit a person to two years in a position, this was brought about in the hopes it would bring in new blood to the executive and prevent one person from the burden of a position forever.  It has’t quite worked out that way but for the most part it’s been good. One gets stagnant holding the same position and tends to do the same old same old all the time. There are three positions currently being held by their previous members. The Membership/Secretary is looking for a person to take over as is the Editor.  Both positions do require a bit more work but the incumbents have indicated they are more than willing to ride along as it were while the new people pick up on the ins and outs of the jobs. Last position is Tech support and both incumbents have indicated a willingness to continue. Not a lot of demand in that position though we’d love to change that if we could. Make them earn their money… what? Oh they don’t get paid? Well make them do something for getting their names in the newsletter.  So watch out, you may find yourself being drafted this year….  it’s in the bylaws don’t you know.

Looking for an early 911!

January 13th, 2012

The launch of the new Porsche 911 is drawing near and Norden Porsche has asked for help in trying to find an early 911 (up to ‘73).  The preference is that it is in black, but any colour at this point will do.  Norden requires the car for February 4th, 2012 and will pay for transportation and you will receive an invitation to the launch event!  If you assist in finding the vehicle you will receive an invitation as well.

If you have a line on a 911 please call 780-426-3000 and ask for myself, Geoff in the Parts Dept. or email me at gallan@nordenporsche.com.  Alternatively you can contact Christian Gersdorff in Sales at 780-426-3000 if I am unavailable.

Season Greetings

January 3rd, 2012

The Executive of the ECSCC wish all our members a Happy New Ylotus-sept-1-08005ear. With winter solstice past the days are getting longer. We’ll be back into sports cars shortly.
Don’t forget the Annual General meeting, January 18th. There are a number of positions available. Hope to see you there.
The planning meeting takes place March 21st and we’re hoping to have some new events and some returning events. The big runs last summer were great for those who went and the local runs turned out to be popular as well.
